1862 Dog Registration

In Lot Abraham’s diaries, he does not mention a family dog. With Lot in the service, perhaps Lot’s brother, John McCue Abraham, felt he needed a dog for companionship and to help him herd the hogs. It seems highly unusual that Henry County would require dog owners to register their pets and pay a $1.00 fee to the Township Clerk, but the following document is proof positive it was so.
